In the mornings, we have alternate guided reading/spelling and handwriting lessons followed by maths and literacy each day. We follow a creative curriculum in the afternoons, including Art, Music, Computing, Science, French and PSHE.

Maths

This half term, children will be focusing on times table practice, multiplication and division, area, length and perimeter. Year 4s will be practicing all of their tables in preparation for the statutory tests towards the end of the academic year.

Literacy

In Spring 2, we will be exploring deforestation via our model text 'Varmints' to tie in with out science topic of animals and their habitats. We will use this text to create character and setting descriptions, improve our sentences through oracy practice and make predictions.

In our class we have been working on building our oracy skills, engaging in a range of literacy strategies such as hot seating, role playing, drama and performance to develop and support our writing.

P.E
Our P.E days in Year 3 and 4 are Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure your child arrives at school in the correct P.E kit. Children are currently learning both dance and perfroming with our instructor Sophie.

During Spring 1, year 3 will be taking part in swimming lessons on Thursday afternoons.

PSHE
In PSHE, our focus is all about our dreams and goals. In this topic, we will be looking towards the future and what we aspire to be. We will also be discussing why its a positive feeling to have goals and what we might have to do to achieve them.

Science - Living things and their habitats
In this topic, we will be looking at what habitats, classification and life cycles.

Art
Children will be looking at landscape artists and working towards painting their own Landscape.

Geography
Mist mountains and rivers

MFL - French
In French, we will be leaning all about musical instruments.

Computing
In computing this half term, we are focusing on e-mails and other forms of communication using our Purple Mash scheme of work. We don't just use this in computing: our teaching staff set cross-curricular games and quizzes to make learning fun and we get to tinker with our skills, which we love to do. We continue to use our Ipads for TTRS and Bedrock too!
